Children in Hospital Ireland is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The organisation has its Head Office in Sandyford, Dublin 18. Children in Hospital Ireland delivers a national volunteer-run hospital play and recreation service in hospitals throughout the country; advocates to promote the highest standards in the delivery of healthcare for children; provides information for parents and carers of hospitalised children; and works collaboratively with support groups for children who are ill or have long-term medical conditions.
The Development Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of Children in Hospital Ireland. The Development Manager will support the growth and sustainability of Children in Hospital Ireland by securing new income streams, developing strategic partnerships, identifying opportunities to expand services, and supporting the delivery of the strategic Plan 2026-2028. The person will report to the CEO and be part of the management team in CIH.

Purpose of Role:
The Development Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of Children in Hospital Ireland. The Development Manager will support the growth and sustainability of Children in Hospital Ireland by securing new income streams, developing strategic partnerships, identifying opportunities to expand services, and supporting the delivery of the strategic Plan 2026-2028. The person will report to the CEO and be part of the management team in CIH.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Development
- Identify new development opportunities to bring the CIH services to more children and families in underserved communities and to families with fewer social supports
- Enhancing the reach and uptake of CIH services through increased promotion of services with key stakeholders
- Work alongside the service teams in CIH to identify areas of greatest need for families and identify potential funding opportunities to support new services
- Tracking the uptake and reach of services and mapping this against target outcomes identified in the CIH Strategic Plan 2026-2028 and the annual operational plans.
Funding and Sustainability
- Set annual income targets agreed with the CEO
- Researching into potential funding opportunities across philanthropic, Governmental and corporate sectors and the preparation of funding submissions for these.
- Develop and lead a fundraising strategy inclusive of philanthropy, donors, fundraising campaigns and events, and grants
- Ensure compliance with grant conditions and reporting timelines
- Maintaining donor relationships
Partnership Development
- Represent CIH at relevant events, forums, and partnership meetings to enhance visibility and understanding of CIH work within the wider children’s health sector.
- Working with the Volunteer Manager to develop and implement a business plan to support the continued development and expansion of volunteer services in partner hospitals throughout Ireland
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships, specifically within the philanthropy and fundraising sectors and with other relevant stakeholders including research and advocacy bodies and others where CIH wishes to partner.
Team Leadership
- Manage the overall work of the Information and Communications Officer and the Fundraising Officer to ensure a better knowledge and reach of CIH services among the wider public and to help secure additional funding for new services and initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in voluntary sector, business development, or related sectors.
- Proven track record in stakeholder engagement and service promotion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and relationship building.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
- Experience in working toward measurable targets or KPIs.
- Experience of working in the voluntary/health sector will be an advantage
- Full clean driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
- Degree in Social Care, Business, or a related field is desirable.

Terms and Conditions:
Location: CIH offices, Sandyford, Co. Dublin with possibility of hybrid
Salary: €48,500
Annual Leave: 22 days base allowance. Office closes for three days between Christmas and New Year. Additional day of leave on Good Friday and Christmas Eve.
