Job Summary
The Retail Development Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening and growing Galway Simon Community’s charity shop operations. The role focuses on improving retail and donation processes, increasing income generation, developing pop-up and off-site retail opportunities, building external partnerships, and enhancing the visibility and reputation of Galway Simon Community charity shops.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Development & Income Growth
• Review and improve retail processes in conjunction with Supervisor across charity shops and pop-up shops to maximise income and efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve stock flow, and enhance customer experience.
• Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of pop-up shops, off-site sales, and seasonal retail initiatives.
• Monitor retail performance and contribute to achieving targets.
Promotion & Partnerships
• Build and maintain relationships with external organisations, businesses, and community groups.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration, sponsorship, and joint retail initiatives.
• Support the promotion of charity shops and pop-up shops activity to increase footfall and awareness.
• Work with internal teams on campaigns, local promotions, and messaging.
• Strengthen the visibility and identity of Galway Simon Community and charity retail within the community.
Team Coordination
• In conjunction with the Supervisor, coordinate and support staff and volunteer rosters, ensuring appropriate cover and effective rotation of shop tasks.
• Provide day to day guidance and support to shop teams and volunteers, promoting a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
Administration
• Support retail administration processes, including till reconciliation, stock control, and record‑keeping, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvements, income growth, and enhanced customer experience.
• Contribute to the development of regular reporting on retail income, shop performance, pop‑up activity, and improvement initiatives, using insights to inform planning and decision‑making.
• Oversee customer and donor enquiries to ensure timely, professional communication across retail channels.
Customer Service
• Deliver seasonal promotions, shop layouts, and visual merchandising to maximise sales and presentation.
• Proactively identify off-site sales opportunities and plan and deliver off-site events and pop-up shops.
• Provide professional customer and donor service, including sales support and handling queries about Galway Simon Community.
• Support merchandising, pricing, stock rotation, and day to day retail operations to achieve sales targets.
• Operate tills and process transactions in line with cash handling procedures.
• Maintain high standards of shop presentation, cleanliness, and customer experience at all times.
Donations
• Improve donation intake, sorting, pricing, and stock management processes to maximise value from donated goods.
• Support consistent standards in donation handling, presentation, and pricing across shops.
• Enhance donor experience and encourage repeat and higher-quality donations.
• Identify higher-value or specialist items to be promoted.
• Ensure shops are adequately stocked with good-quality, appropriately priced items.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Follow all shop policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements.
• Keep the shop environment safe, clean and hazard-free at all times.
• Ensure stock donations are managed and safely stored.
• Adhere to all health & safety standards including hygiene, fire safety and manual handling.
• Monitor and report maintenance, health and safety, safeguarding, or staffing concerns in a timely manner.
Other
• Work to Galway Simon Community values and ethos.
• Positively promote and represent Galway Simon Community in activities and conduct.
• Adhere to HR and Galway Simon Community policies and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality in relation to staff, volunteers, donors, customers, and organisational matters.
• Attend relevant training or briefings required for the role.
• Carry out other reasonable duties consistent with the nature of the role.

Essential Requirements
• Experience in retail, commercial, or service development roles.
• Experience in project or event management and coordination.
• Proven ability to develop and improve processes to support income growth.
• Excellent numeracy and IT skills (e.g. handling cash, inputting data, Office 365).
• Strong organisational and relationship-building skills.
• Commitment to the values and mission of the organisation.
• Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Comfortable with hands-on duties including manual handling, sorting donations, and maintaining a clean, tidy, and well-presented shop environment
Desirable
• Experience in charity retail or social enterprise.
• Experience with pop-up shops or events.
• Experience in partnerships or community engagement.
• Knowledge of visual merchandising and sales techniques.
• Knowledge of sustainability, recycling, or community services.
• Full driving licence.
