
Galway Simon Community works with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across Galway city and county. The organisation provides housing, prevention services and ongoing support to help people move out of homelessness and sustain long term tenancies.
Galway Simon Community is now seeking to recruit a Finance Manager who will support the Financial Controller in delivering a robust and effective finance function. This is a key management role responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the finance team while ensuring high standards of governance, reporting and financial control across the organisation.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal managers, auditors, funders and external stakeholders, ensuring that financial resources are managed responsibly and transparently in line with regulatory and funding requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will oversee the organisation’s finance operations and contribute to the strategic and operational management of the organisation. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to charities and approved housing bodies.
- Assisting with the annual audit process, including preparation of documentation and responding to audit queries.
- Supporting the development of finance policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Contributing to financial planning and strategy aligned with the organisation’s strategic plan.
- Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts and financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting the preparation of annual budgets and monitoring expenditure against approved budgets.
- Overseeing core finance activities including payroll, pensions administration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, rental income, fundraising income, banking and general ledger management.
- Maintaining asset registers including fixed assets and property loans.
- Monitoring financial performance and supporting service managers to manage budgets effectively.
- Line managing members of the finance team, including supervision, performance reviews and staff development.
- Allocating work and ensuring the finance team meets deadlines and maintains high standards of service delivery.
- Communicating financial information clearly to non finance managers to support informed decision making.
- Building effective relationships with funders, auditors, regulators and other external stakeholders.
Person Specification
Applicants should have strong financial management experience combined with the leadership skills required to manage a busy finance function within a regulated environment.
Essential requirements include:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in a senior finance role with responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting and financial control.
- Experience managing staff and supporting the development and performance of a finance team.
- Experience supporting audits and engaging with external stakeholders such as auditors, funders or regulators.
- Strong technical accounting skills and the ability to analyse and communicate financial information clearly.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to work effectively with non finance colleagues.
- Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge of charity accounting standards, governance and regulatory requirements is desirable.
