About Us
The Sustainable Water Network (SWAN) is an environmental advocacy coalition working to protect and enhance Ireland's water environment. We bring together a wide range of environmental NGOs and community groups that share a commitment to the sustainable management of Ireland’s rivers, lakes, groundwater, wetlands, estuaries, and coastal waters. We play a key role in national water policy discussions and represent civil society perspectives in regulatory and planning processes.
Our work spans policy analysis, public engagement, and advocacy, with a strong focus on ensuring the full implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive. We emphasise the importance of science-based water governance and the inclusion of communities and stakeholders in decision-making. We produce reports, briefings, and consultations on key issues such as agricultural runoff, urban wastewater, and wetland protection. Through collaboration, research, and public campaigns, we seek to secure healthy waters for nature, people, and future generations.
